Food poisoning is a condition which is characterized by the inflammation of the gut lining of the stomach and intestines. It usually resolves without medication but in some cases might lead to complications.
It is caused by eating contaminated food. Infectious organisms including bacteria, viruses and parasites or their toxins are the most common causes of food poisoning. Contamination can also occur at home if food is incorrectly cooked or handled.
Food poisoning symptoms, which starts within hours of eating contaminated food, often include nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramps sometimes even fever.
Food poisoning can be resolved without medications by drinking a lot of water and having enough rest but you should go to the doctor when you start seeing the following symptoms:
.Bloody vomits or stools
.Diarrhea for more than three days
.Extreme pain
.Neurological symptoms such as blurry visions and muscle weakness
.Extreme hyperthermia (extreme rise in temperature)
To prevent food poisoning always:
.Wash your hands,utensils, and food other surfaces in your kitchen always
.Keep raw foods separate from ready to eat food
.Cook foods to a safe temperature
.Refrigerate or freeze perishable foods promptly
.Avoid eating spoilt foods
